Badlands National Park

During the Cold War, the Great Plains were home to 1,000 nuclear missile silos – more than 10% of which were located in South Dakota. These silos were home to the Minuteman Missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles with an 8,700 mile range that could be rapidly deployed, hence the name.
