Badlands National Park is often referred to as America’s most underrated National Park. During the Cold War, the Great Plains were home to 1,000 nuclear missile silos – more than 10% of which were located in South Dakota. These silos were home to the Minuteman Missiles, intercontinental ballistic missiles with an 8,700 mile range that could be rapidly deployed, hence the name. Minuteman Missile National Historic Site protects and preserves two of these facilities, allowing you a chance to experience a unique and thought-provoking journey into a chapter of history that continues to influence the world today.
